The physical steel-and-repurposed-nail sculpture of a porcupine is still missing from its spot on the Portland International Jetport campus, but it’s easy to find on social media.
As happens sometimes with interesting animals or inanimate objects — or in this case, a combination of the two — that are in the news, someone set up a witty Twitter account for the “Portland Porcupine.”
In case you missed it, Portland police announced Tuesday that the sculpture, part of a collection of 10 animal art pieces on the jetport property, had apparently been stolen at some point in late March or early April.
But on Twitter, @PWMPorcupine has quipped a range of explanations for his disappearance:
It’s not that I’m missing. It’s just that my job was one of the 900 affected jobs @Governor_LePage was talking about… #PortlandPorcupine

Not missing. Trying out for the @usavolleyball team. Problematic, for about 30,000 needle-like reasons… #PortlandPorcupine

Just a little spa time. Though now I owe a BIG tip to that masseuse. Sorry, Sven. (Worth it.) #PortlandPorcupine https://t.co/Cym4cbVZRm
