Conde Nast readers pick Maine resort as one of America’s top 10

In this fall’s Readers’ Choice Awards, the discerning readership of high-end travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler rated their favorite places to vacation.

And among those readers’ picks for top resort locations in America were some island getaways off the coast of Georgia, several opulent ski lodges in Utah and a couple of exclusive beachfront retreats in Hawaii.

Plus one location in Maine: Hidden Pond resort in Kennebunkport.

Hidden Pond was not only on the list, it was in the top 10 — No. 6, to be exact — besting both of the entries from Hawaii, spots on Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod in Massachusetts, and a beautiful destination on Lake Tahoe in California, among others.

(Conde Nast Traveler readers rank Hidden Pond No. 1 in New England and No. 16 in the entire world, if you want to change the scope one way or the other.)

Here’s how the magazine describes the Maine resort, in part:

“On 60 acres about five miles outside preppy Kennebunkport, Hidden Pond has a fantasy summer camp feel, with hand-painted wood signs pointing to a garden where you can pick vegetables or to a bike shed where you can borrow a retro cruiser for the mile ride to Goose Rocks Beach. The 36 one- and two-bedroom cottages, each by a different local interior designer, range from the playful Periwinkle (in sunshiney primary colors) to the classic Thank You (embroidered lobster pillows and an airy seafoam and powder blue New England aesthetic). All have generous kitchens, cozy porches, and gas fireplaces for chilly nights.”
