Naked selfies, ‘Game of Thrones’ and lip sync battles: Maine’s Anna Kendrick wins the Internet

Outside of politics — the realm in which author Stephen King and Gov. Paul LePage trade headline fodder — can anyone remember the last time a Mainer lit up the Internet like Portland native and award-winning actress Anna Kendrick?

This week, Kendrick spun Twitter heads for the latest time by demanding HBO’s hit fantasy series “Game of Thrones” — known for its gratuitous sex scenes — include more male nudity for its female fans.

“Madonna kissed Drake, Hilary’s [sic] running for president, but HBO STILL hasn’t shown this dude’s d*ck?? #FeministPriority,” she Tweeted, along with a picture of “Game of Thrones” hunk Michiel Huisman (the edits are mine).

pitch perfectThat was Monday, after she’d spent the previous few days making and posting collages of fans posing with movie theater cutouts of her and her castmates from the forthcoming “Glee”-style movie “Pitch Perfect 2.” That Internet art project grabbed the attention of pulse-taker Buzzfeed.

(Kendrick performed her single “Cups” in the first “Pitch Perfect” movie, which went on to reach triple platinum in sales. And “Pitch Perfect 3” has reportedly received a green light already.)

And even though the Deering High School graduate and “Into The Woods” star can carry a tune on her own, her next big move will be mouthing the words to somebody else’s song.

Kendrick is appearing on SPIKE TV’s virally popular new show “Lip Sync Battle” Thursday night, when she’ll lip sync and dance to the song “Booty” and be joined by none other than Jennifer Lopez herself.

For the uninitiated, teaser videos of Hollywood A-listers going crazy pretending to sing their favorite songs have spread like wildfire on social media, and Kendrick’s routine is no different:

These latest Internet explosions by Kendrick come in a year in which she already gave late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien a scene-stealing critique of the current “naked selfie” fad.

“Do your thing — ‘naked selfie’ your life away, but clean your room,” Kendrick said in a clip that’s now been viewed almost 900,000 times on YouTube, because it has the words “Anna Kendrick” and “naked” in the title.

“Wouldn’t you prefer a naked girl in a clean room over a naked girl in a messy room?,” he pondered incredulously.

If there’s a Super Bowl of the Internet, can we give Anna Kendrick the 2015 trophy already?
